Mary Beth Schuler

Hi! Change is scary! I am here to help you make those changes a little easier.

There are so many reasons folx come to therapy, but most often it is because folx notice something isn’t working quite right for themself, their relationship, or their child. Sound familiar? I work collaboratively with my clients to understand their emotional landscape. In doing so we can figure out what works and to make adjustments to unhelpful patterns and coping strategies. Sometimes this means understanding how our past affects the present. Sometimes this means understanding how our location and place in society affects our day to day. Whatever it is, we’ll find it together.

My practice is rooted in the belief that therapy is a form of liberation in that by understanding yourself or your relationship(s), you can be free of the unhelpful coping strategies and live a more fulfilling life. I am relational, person-centered, and trauma and strengths informed. Each person, relationship, or polycule is unique, so we will collaborate to tailor your therapy. I draw upon the following therapies: humanistic, attachment, liberation, and feminist.

Who I work with

I work with adults, teens, couples, and polycules. I have in-depth knowledge of the LGBTQIA2-S+ communities, neurodiversity, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, trauma, life transitions, grief, gender exploration/affirmation, health at every size, kink, and polyamory.

What’s Next?

When you first reach out, we’ll have a free check-in call to see if we are a good fit. I’ll ask some questions about why you are looking for a therapist, and you can ask me anything you’d like. If you’d like to go forward, we’ll schedule our first session.

In the first few sessions we’ll talk about what you’d like to get out of therapy and define your goals. Then we’ll get started on our work together and building our therapeutic relationship. Maybe on some days you will want to talk about the impact of anxiety/depression on your life, while on others you will want to focus on unpacking childhood trauma or maybe you will want to explore your gender. Or perhaps all three! It’s all welcome. As we continue our work, I will periodically check in with you to make sure you are progressing in your therapeutic goals.

If you are ready for change please email me at marybeth@marybethschuler.com to schedule an intake appointment.

Fees

My full fee is $175-200. I currently do not take any insurance but can provide a superbill. I offer in person or telehealth services over video conferencing or phone.

About Me

I am femme-presenting, genderqueer, queer, white, anti-racist, and fat. I use they/them pronouns. My previous work was in social justice, where I developed deep relationships with folx from diverse backgrounds. Through that experience I developed a lifelong commitment to working on my own privilege, and working to change our society. The combination of my social justice work, my own therapy, and my understanding of our collective society led me to the path of becoming a therapist.
